OCCUPATIONAL
THERAPY
Occupational Therapy (OT) is a health
and rehabilitation profession designed to help people regain skills that are important for health, well-being, security and
happiness. Occupational Therapists (OTs) work with people of
all ages who because of physical, developmental, social or
emotional deficits, need specialized assistance in learning skills
to enable them to lead independent, productive and satisfying lives. OTs are uniquely qualified to provide individuals with equipment
that promotes the highest degree of functional independence in daily
living. The Occupational Therapy Department at DCH continues
to expand to provide outpatients the highest quality of care
possible.
Occupational therapy provides services
to inpatients, outpatients, Subacute residents, home health and
hospice patients as well as pediatric patients. First Steps OT
is one program available for children from birth to age three.
The DCH OT department has greatly expanded its comprehensive upper
extremity rehabilitation program with the addition of the BTE Work
Simulator II. The BTE is used to simulate numerous
work-related tasks to design a rehabilitation program specific to
our patient's needs.

patient diagnoses:
• Activities of Daily Living (ADL)
Retraining
• Adaptive Equipment Training
• Home Environmental Assessments
